ABOUT THE ARTIST
2001 BMAA First Place Crystal Award Winner-Misc. Category
I have always loved barbie but was
really moved in 1992 by Bob Mackie's Neptune.
My collecting blossomed after
I received her as a Christmas gift.
Then in 1996 I discovered
Gene at a local doll shop and my first purchase was Bird of Paradise.
She still sits proudly in my display
case.
I always loved to paint and draw
but my art was only a hobby until 1997.
At that time, I began ceramic classes
which led to a couple of blue ribbons in the first
two shows that I entered. I sold
my creations at craft stores, by special orders and through referrals.
This lead to my decision to became
a certified teacher.
My favorite thing to paint or draw
are faces with their endless possibilities
for expressions and personalities.
My mother started collecting Gene and tried to
get me to repaint her. After
some persistence, I started my repainting with Barbies and
found it very enjoyable.
I painted my first Gene in March of 2000, sold her on Ebay,
and was instantly hooked!
Doing repaints and restyles has
become my hobby, my addiction, and my relaxation.
My biggest critics, besides myself,
is my 14 and 6 year old daughters.
They want to approve the finished
doll and continuously check on my progress.
I involve them a lot and it has
turned into a wonderful experience for all of us.
Kambry loves photography, so this
is her special area to help in.
We fight over dolls and outfits,
but we get to "Share the Dream."
I now have 2 girls that I will be
able to enjoy collecting dolls with,
not to mention more rooms to display
in!
